Nick Rozsa or the king of undergroud as many people say,Kelly Slater prefers to call nick as the “Best sponsorless surfer”.Most of you never heard of Nick before the Homegrown videos of Chris Papaleo and few of you still don’t.So, W² introduces you Nick Rozsa and talks with the maker of the Homegrown vids and Nick’s good friend. Chris Papaleo.
W²: Nick,Until the second part of Homegrown you were unsponsored and everybody just couldn’t believe it that such a good surfer like you didn’t have any help from any company out there. Now, having and the fourth part of Homegrown did you had any offer from a company?
Nick:The last year had a lot of challenges, I was not sure where my career was going. I ended up signing with Reef about a month ago. I am excited for this year and to get some work done with those guys!
W²: Back in the mid 00’s you managed to have great results in a lots of contests, had a transworld surf cover, had sponsors like o’neil & oakley and you were voted as one of the Top Fifteen to Watch by Transworld. Now, at 2012 you get back with 4 videos with really great surfing and everyone talks and re-introduces Nick Rosza. What happened between in this gap and how do you feel being again in the spotlight?
Nick: Basically I was over the whole contest scene and being fake around everybody that thrives on surfing in a heat. It was not for me. Maybe one day, but not now. Unfortunately all my sponsors at the time didn’t see it that way and let me go. I recently became a father. Having a son has changed everything. The last year has been really devoted to that and staying healthy. I was really into the party thing for a minute but that was just a waste of time and got me nowhere. Lately I’ve just been trying to focus on my surfing and achieving one goal at a time.
