Each time you go surfing at Vouliagmeni, the first thing you face is the challenge to actually get to the beach. Is it going to be through climbing, around the cafe or the long way through the west side. Whatever your choice will be one thing is for sure, you actually think that whoever is behind the locked door and the bars blocking the way, surely hates our surfing guts! That’s what we thought, until recently..

Two guys, with some coast guard officers, came across with me this Tuesday. One was the Manager of the Hellenic Tourism Development Co. He was interesting in the sport, having only good words to say, from the athleticism, to the view that the customers of the cafe enjoy while having a cup of coffee. He was impressed watching people surfing, even more under these conditions. He wanted to know if there is some kind of union he could refer to, so that we can all (surfers) gain a free pass to the beach.

To make a long story short, he gave us his phone number, so anyone who’s interested in getting a free pass, can contact him directly and get it.

He was referring to the entrance at the East side of the beach, from Poseidonos street.

The entrance near the cafe will remain closed. Whether is legal or not, good or bad, we are not going to discuss at this post. We just happened to be the ones that spoke to the guy and feel obligated to share with the rest of you. We think it’s a good initiative from their side. We are glad that “they” have become a substance and it’s actually a good one! W²

WAM’s new hit

WAM’s predictions haven’t been so accurate lately. We have great respect to anyone responsible for the site and it’s still the first forecast to visit, but it’s a great chance for a funny post to pleasure ourselves, since the waves aren’t cooperating.

More and more surfers aren’t willing to wake up early in the morning since they have doubts for the predictions.. they prefer to get the wake up call from someone who’s already there.

Therefore, the legendary band WAM got a new hit..

North vs South

According to last weekend’s forecast, the swell hitting the west and southwest coasts of pelloponisos, was going to be the biggest of the year! It’s a weekend you don’t wanna miss. A weekend you wished to be in all spots simultaneously!

Since you can’t be in more than one place at the time, a group of friends decided to split and go North and South… each group hunting the best conditions out there.

We “follow” group #1 who went North and all the way down. Unfortunately, South was the place to be. W²

With the forecast going purple, i guess it was better than we imagined. You hoped for the best but you got what you expected.. a crappy, huge, full of salty spray day. W²

On shore winds in the morning, huge sets but most close out. Smaller waves, lighter winds during the afternoon. Add a broken board and you have the first day of 2012!

We need a man for the situation, the man who’ll save the day, we need a local!!!

Once again, we found the solution to the problem, we got the one that even the CST are intimidated by! W²

Sri Lankers

Nature at its best, nice weather, your mates, good swell and lots of surfing.

A great main point in the heart of the village, reef brake, fast waves that can get pretty tricky during big days!

Within 35min range you can find great spots, like lighthouse, greenroom, whisky point, pottuvil, crocodile rock, elephant rock, peanut farm and oganda. It’s the “regular” paradise since all spots have right waves. There is one left wave but it’s not working that often.

Add some great food and cheap accommodation (3euros per night) and there you have it… Sri Lanka!

Overall, a great trip and definitely an opportunity for a level upgrade!
